When you look at Kyle today you need to realize that it is undergoing a 'rebirth' of sorts. The Austin and San Antonio Business Journals have recognized Kyle as the 2007-2008 Number 1 "hot spot" in the Austin/San Antonio Corridor for commercial investment and development. Kyle is currently the fifth fastest growing city in Texas according to the United States Census Bureau.
The big news as it relates to the building boom in Kyle is the new hospital Seton will be building in the community and the 1 million square-foot retail center-tantamount to a regional mall that is to go next door.
Another big announcement that will add to the change coming to this small city is the fact that a promising computer manufacturer in Austin called RSI, is planning to move to the $3.5 million dollar plant it's building in Kyle, bringing with it up to 200 high tech jobs.
With all of this growth coming down the way the Kyle real estate market is undergoing a huge growth with many new neighborhoods under construction. For the next few years this puts the seller competing head-to-head with the builders as the new construction in Kyle is at an all time high.
Another bit of history of Kyle Texas: From 1892 to 1901 Kyle was home to the Pulitzer Prize winning author, Katherine Anne Porter. Many of her most famous short stories such as Noon Wine are set in locations in and around Kyle. Her former home there is now a writer's residence open to the public by appointment. The Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center hosts readings by visiting writers. Upcoming visitors include U.S. Poet Laureate Charles Simic, National Book Award Winner Tim O'Brien, Pulitzer Prize Winner Robert Stone, and celebrated short-story author Mary Gaitskill.
