Health Alternatives and Homeopathic Options
One of the things I love most about the Austin area is that it is a city of diversity...of options. As more and more attention gets focused on health and healthy choices, people are becoming more aware of how important it is to look at the whole body...mind, body and spirit. In this section of the website I've begun listing a few of my discoveries/favorites. You might be suprised that in the area, not a 'stone's throw away' you can find award winning wineries, organic farm produce, an olive farm, goat farms with award winning cheeses and sooooo much more. Tours can be a fun way to expose your kids to a healthier and more natural life style.
If you know others that you can recommend, email us. We'd like to provide this as a resource of 'newcomers' to get an idea of where to start searching when it comes to looking for healthy foods, organic foods, locally raised products etc. May this be a beginning to a new healthier you!
Netti Pot (If you have allergies in Austin...you gotta try it!)
I'm just tossing this in. If you have allergies (as one of my daughters has) and you want to avoid shots and all of the antihistamines, you might want to try one of these. I heard about it on Oprah and bought one for my daughter. We had it almost a year before she was desperate and uncomfortable enough to use it but now she SWEARS by it. This spring was the first spring pretty much in her life as she used to be on weekly shots, that she was fine. She uses the pot daily and if she's out in the weather playing soccor or just out and about she'll use it right away to clean the pollen out of her sinuses. No drugs, nothing but a salt water wash. You can get one at many of the pharmacies now I understand as more and more people are becoming aware of it. It really works! (TIP: Don't tilt your head back, ONLY tip to one side otherwise you feel like you're drowning.)

Now you may or may not have heard about Rolfing, it's a deep tissue massage that helps you in a number of ways from relieving pain, helping with balance and helping your posture. While one session is okay, it's when you do the entire series of 10 or so sessions that you really get rocking and rolling. I had read about Rolfing for years, but had always heard it was a painful experience...and well, I'm not into pain. In fact I will run the other way as fast as I can when I hear pain is involved. Then I met Allison one day when I was visiting Plum Blossom and we got to talking. She assured me there was no pain...and well I signed up for a single session. I wanted to make sure it didn't hurt. It was Great! Allison is a master it and one of the nicest people you'd want to meet. Research the internet about the benefits of Rolfing..then call Allison.

This is a locally-owned pharmacy that has a variety of homeopathic remedies along with your more traditional western options. It's actually fun to check out their products.

I've not gone here but I understand they offer both traditional treatment and alternative medicines and I love the concept. Doctors, acupuncturist or naturapath they can treat the entire family. I plan to check them out next time I'm in need for a doctor.
This place is really neat. Wonderful classes and wellness experts that come and speak. Retreats and workshops ...there are several that I want to take.
