Austin Area Farmers' Markets, Food Coops & CSAs

Who doesn't love fresh produce???  Well here are a few of the farmers markets in the area where you can buy locally grown produce and products.  From soap to nuts, jellies to hand creams, eggs to goat cheese you can find them here.  I'm finding I love to go to these as it feel sooo good to walk around and the people are friendly, it's like stepping back in time.

Farmers’ Markets

Farmers' markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers. From the traditional "mercados" in the Peruvian Andes to the unique street markets in Asia, growers all over the world gather weekly to sell their produce directly to the public. In the last decade they have become a favorite marketing method for many farmers throughout the United States, and a weekly ritual for many shoppers.

In a farmers' market, a group of farmers sell their products once or twice a week at a designated public place like a park or parking lot. Shopping at a farmers' market is a great way to meet local farmers and get fresh, flavorful produce.  Here are a few of the area markets.

Area CSA’s

What is a CSA’s? For those serious about eating fresh produce and you know you are going to be purchasing it on a regular basis, you may consider joining a CSA.  CSA stands for community supported agriculture.  It is where a group of people buy seasonal shares of a farmer's produce, in essence, they have a stake in the farm. The farmer’s fresh fruits and vegetables are normally delivered each week to either the person’s home (depending on proximity ot th farm) or the deliveries are made to specific area pick up location. CSA's support organic farming, permaculture and biodynamic farming methods for sustainable agriculture.  However be aware that each farm has a limited number of these “shares”.  Sign ups are usually seasonal and and there may be a waiting list.    Johnson’s Backyard Garden    512- 386-5273
